Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder that causes people to engage in rituals that include persistent checking, repeating behaviors that are driven by fear, and negatively affect the quality of life for the individual.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
OCD affects 1.2% of the population. Like most anxiety disorders, the behaviors unique to OCD are driven by fear. For instance, a sufferer may have a constant fear that the stove was left on and that the house could burn down. To ease their fear of this, they’ll repeatedly check the stove to make sure that it’s off. This may seem normal behavior for anyone worried about the stove being left on, but someone with OCD will check to see if the stove was left on, confirm it’s off, then come back to check again an hour later. The behavior becomes irrational and eventually lowers the quality of the sufferer’s life.
Weighted blankets can be tools that help OCD sufferers relax during times of stress, and sleep better at night. A weighted blanket can be an affordable, and safe solution to improve their sleep.
